WSOC did beat Iona last night btw, and volleyball showed a ton of guts today coming back from 2-0 down to beat Rider in 5. Glad to have Newblatt back in the lineup. Wednesday night at Q is next, going for the season sweep of the Bobcats. Nice start for Volleyball. 5-1 in league play with wins over Quinny and Rider two of the three teams picked ahead of them in the coaches poll as well as tagging the 5-1 Iona with their only league loss. I guess the big question is will Fairfield ever lose a set this year in league play. Marist came close without Newblatt. Maybe now there is some hope. LOL.

The only reason Fairfield doesn't run the table every year is Todd Kress always punts a match or 2 to rest his starters. He's a big proponent of NBA-style load management.
Marist has to make the WNY trip the final weekend before the MAAC tournament and it wouldn't shock me if Sean Byron did something similar then.

After another 5 set road win at QU on Wednesday, volleyball really laid an egg at home this afternoon, losing in 4 to Siena. Wednesday night at Fairfield is probably a foregone L, then it's the WNY duo next weekend at McCann.
Women's soccer drew 1-1 at Siena this afternoon, 1 point is better than 0 but they need to get a couple Ws soon or they won't qualify for the tournament.
Men host Siena tonight, need to snap this skid and get 3 points.

men let a 1-0 lead with 15 minutes left get away with 2 goals given up in less than a minute and a half. Welp, it's officially not going great.

what a response tonight from VB after the awful loss to Siena on Saturday, the Foxes go down to Fairfield and shock the MAAC unbeaten Stags in a 5-set thriller.
Heller 25 kills, 10 digs on .393 hitting, van der Merwe 16 kills, 10 digs, 9 blocks. It will be a happy bus ride home to Poughkeepsie tonight.

Really impressed with the job Sean Byron has done at Marist. In 3 plus years his MAAC record is 32-17 (including a 1-3 Covid year mark). Todd Kress is to MAAC Volleyball what Giorgis is to MAAC WBB. FF is the undisputed heavyweights of MAAC Volleyball and has been for years. Hard to overstate what a big deal a win over FF is for a MAAC squad, let alone at FF. Kudos to the Marist team.

with the draw tonight at home against Fairfield, Marist men's soccer has shockingly been eliminated from playoff contention with 1 match to go.
I can't sugarcoat this...an absolutely colossal disappointment from the defending champs/preseason title pick. Sheesh.
Women's soccer at least made the MAAC playoffs, thanks to a win and not 1, not 2, but 3 friendly results from Wednesday's out of town scoreboard. They're at Niagara tomorrow at noon in the quarters. If they advance, it would be to regular season co-champ Quinnipiac.
Volleyball shook off a bad 2nd set to dust Rider tonight in 4. Home finale tomorrow against Saint Peter's is all but a gimme, then final 3 on the road against upstart Siena and the always arduous WNY Weekend.

I just don't get what happened to men's soccer. I could get if they couldn't follow up their championship campaign and just had a down season right off the bat but they had a very solid start in the out of conference. Then in MAAC play just took a huge step back, so strange

Volleyball clinches 2nd place in the MAAC with the sweep win at Niagara. They can rest the starters tomorrow in the regular season finale at Canisius if they want, and then it's off to Disney World.

Sweep win at Canisius to finish the regular season - volleyball really clicking heading into the tournament (4 straight sweeps, 6 straight wins since giving up the 2-0 lead at Iona).
They will be the 2 seed and play the Rider-Manhattan PIG winner. Win that and it's either Iona or QU in the semifinals.
