volleyball has been up and down the last couple weekends. Last weekend - took the 1st set off Old Dominion, then got paved the next 3. Had Virginia Tech dead to rights in the 2nd set, gave it away and got swept. Finished off with a 4 set win over Coppin State that probably should have been a sweep.
Today at Rhody - swept LIU in the morning, tonight a terrific battle back from 2 sets down at Rhode Island only to fall in 5. Sasha van der Merwe tied for 2nd in single match Marist history with 31 kills. Jordan Newblatt did that last year against Canisius, then put down 34 the next day against Niagara to set the program record. Hopefully history repeats itself tomorrow against ACC foe Boston College.
Men's soccer tries to stay unbeaten tomorrow night at home against Florida Atlantic.

Nice win for men vs FIU 3-0-1 great start - Gonzaga next up FAU, but yes, still unbeaten. FIU, with wins over St. John's and North Carolina, is significantly better than Florida Atlantic. Ironically FIU was also in the Northeast last night, getting rinsed 3-0 by New Hampshire. I feel like flying out to Spokane in the middle of the week and turning around and flying home is both not a recipe for success in the Gonzaga match but also may have knock on effects for the next match or two. Tough to do. Gonzaga is 1-4, having just gotten off the schneid Thursday against Incarnate Word; they're at Sacramento State later today. Zags only lost 1-0 to Michigan so they're not awful.

Men’s Soccer scores late to win 1-0 at Bryant. Nice bounce back from the long strange trip to Gonzaga. Cornell up next for the 4-1-1 Foxes in PoTown.

Also wanted to point out women's soccer only 1 loss in their first 7 matches, albeit with only 2 wins. 4 draws, exciting!
Volleyball 2-0 in the MAAC after blowing away rancid Manhattan and putting together a clean performance in Sunday's sweep of Iona. Up next is the perennial final boss of MAAC volleyball, Fairfield.

Damn men outshot Bryant 23-3 (11 on net), that is some stingy Defense to give up only 3 shots BUT on the other hand with 23 shots one would hope for more then 1 in back of the net .
PS - Cornell is 2-0 in the MAAC and just took Canisius to the woodshed 8-0

Stags have gone on to put up some Ws, they whipped Princeton the other day. Funny ol' game.

Volleyball goes 1-1 this weekend without Newblatt.
The loss was to Fairfield, a sweep. Should’ve won the first set but the experience of Fairfield was too much. Without Newblatt was too obvious they were going to van der werme for every attack. Hopefully with Newblatt in the future they could challenge Fairfield a little more

Heller, the volleyball grad transfer from Loyola Marymount, had a terrific match for Marist on Sunday. Her performance should have rated a mention in the game recap. 16 Kills only 2 behind van der werme. 2 Aces tied for first with Fox. 13 Digs to lead the team.

tough setback for the men today at Iona 1-0. Not really a killer in the league race, where through 2 matches the co-leaders of the MAAC will have just 4 points unless Niagara beats Saint Peter's tonight to reach 6. Wednesday at QU is next.
Getting late early for the women's soccer squad after a horrible loss at Saint Peter's on Wednesday. Playing Iona at home as we speak, if they lose this one that might be a wrap on their hopes for making the MAAC tournament already. Q comes to town on Wednesday and they are 8-1-1 with the nation's leading goal scorer.
Volleyball got to dump out the bench today while laughing past 0-17 Saint Peter's in Jersey City. Would love to see a win tomorrow at Rider, especially since the Broncs have been underperforming to date and just lost a 5-setter in the Zoo today to a poor Siena team.

WSOC did beat Iona last night btw, and volleyball showed a ton of guts today coming back from 2-0 down to beat Rider in 5. Glad to have Newblatt back in the lineup. Wednesday night at Q is next, going for the season sweep of the Bobcats.
