Just setting up the tournament thread BTW, as with other MAAC automatic bids, they get the privilege of being a jobber to a top-10 team. St. Peter's will play the #2 in the East Region Kentucky Wildcats. Ouch!

Nice job SPU! Bringing in some of that payout $ for the MAAC!

What a poised performance. No fluke. Tonight St. Peter’s was the better team. Holloway’s post game interview was classic. When asked why he didn’t seem nervous his answer was “it’s just basketball”. Congrats Saint Peter’s.

absolutely amazing. In what other athletic endeavor could Saint Peter's possibly beat Kentucky. I might not like what CBB has become but The Madness is undefeated.

Wow! Maybe the MAAC will be able to add schools from some conference other than the NEC

Fun fact from the Iona Board courtesy of “Super”. Saint Peter’s entire mbb budget = $1.5 million. John Calipari’s annual salary = $8.0 million not counting bonuses.

Good for SPU, looks like they're already ready to cash in. "Dunk City" for FGCU was huge for them.
If they make it to the Sweet 16 or further, I wonder if guys like Edert or Ndefo get any onetime NIL endorsements/commercial spots

Really good stuff from SPU. Great for them and great for the MAAC, which by extension means great for Marist.
I would like to point one thing out though, regarding their program: I see people complain here about how we don't have an arena, we don't invest in the basketball enough, etc. I know St. Peter's is an easier school to get into than Marist, but look at what that program has to deal with. Underfunded coaching staff and a newly renovated gym that is still bottom tier in the MAAC, yet they still field competitive teams most years and just pulled off the biggest postseason victory in MAAC history.
Fairfield played in a nice minor league arena for years and is now building a nice arena on campus, but they so far have nothing to show for it and no guarantee it'll happen in the future either. Same with Monmouth, when they were here. Nicest on-campus facility in the MAAC, but never made it to the big dance.
Coaching and recruiting, still the two biggest needs for any program. Building a 4,000 seat arena with a high ceiling and a center-hung videoboard doesn't guarantee anything, especially when the student support is and has been worse than it's ever been.

Maybe we need to offer the same kids SPU does and hope we steal a few?
We stole their coach once
