You are so mean TG28 leave Mainejeff alone - he has no where to go, no one cares about Maine women's basketball, he needs to talk somewhere. I have a right to be mean. I'm a crotchety old man. Now leave me alone, and get off of my lawn!

I'm not an ex-player but a fan who has been watching both the men and women at Marist for 15 years. Why would I consider Marist racist, as I said , the mens' team has always recruited black players. Schools with academic standards higher than Marist have always been able to recruit black players ,and in no way do I consider Giorgis a racist, just don't understand why blacks are never on his roster.

Well then the simple answer is they choose to go elsewhere - coach can only offer cant make them come here.

As a Marist fan who has cheered for both the men and women for 15 years, I thought I could bring valid observation which I feel has some merit. In no way do I consider Giorgis a racist, but just puzzled why no black players all these years. So it's 6 or 7 over 15 years ,big difference.

Watching the game last night I couldn't help notice the make-up of the St. Johns roster, 5 black starters and 6 out of 7 bench players were black. Going back 15 years I was able to find only 3 or 4 black scholarship players on Marist rosters and one Bri Holmes left the program. That roster profile is so out of line with ANY other basketball program in the country it's made me wonder if coach Giorgis is not "comfortable" coaching black players. Did his incredible record of winning get him a pass on this issue. Ridiculous and flat out wrong

St John's has on 34% white students compared to Marist which has 79% - so tell me if you were an African American which college would you select?

I thought that recruiting was for good basketball players that would pass entrance requirements for Marist. I have never seen any reluctance to avoid any race or color. I also have been following Marist Basketball for 18-20 years. I can remember watching Kristen Lamb coach the women's team with about 200 people in the basketball court (No arena). I would really like the administrators to ask all to end this discussion as it really isn't a Basketball Discussion.

I agree 100 percent homebody. I find some of the innuendo disgusting and not worthy of future discussion, at least I won't continue this absolute crap

agree totally, this is offensive to imply there is some racism involved. As a fan and marist grad i have never heard of any such suggestion from either the mens or womens teams. I have always found marist to be very inclusive, a wonderful place with great spirit. One cannot make kids come, for whatever reason the kids that come they come for a myriad of different reasons. You go after the best kids you can get and if they come they come

Never? Again you try to create controversy by minimizing those players that have played for him. In another post, you do it again. I give you eight names, yet you write 6 or 7, again trying to minimize. I could also include Suzette Garnett, a walk-on, but no less a part of coach's team. So there you have nine ladies of color, and you have the gall to post that blacks are NEVER on his roster. You should be ashamed of yourself, but I doubt that you are.

Gentleman, this is my last post on this subject. I just mentioned this topic to my daughter, Marist class of '04, she said she was shocked by the racism on the Marist campus, girls included. The college paper had articles discussing the subject because it was so pervasive on campus. I guess the word got out that Marist might not be the best fit for a black BB player.

Your lame attempt to paint coach with a broad brush is just abhorrent. I don't know what you thought you were going to accomplish here, but you really just need to disappear.

Thanks for nothing to the administrators for letting this continue. Al Sharpton would be proud. Relax. Neither yankee or I have access to the board controls. We are "admins" in title only. I requested the thread be locked because it has gone and stayed off topic. If you take a moment to look at the login's on the home page you will see the real administrator hasn't logged on in a day or so. I also half suggested an off-topic section be created. As the creator of the board the admin gets the privilege of editorial control.
