Watching the game last night I couldn't help notice the make-up of the St. Johns roster, 5 black starters and 6 out of 7 bench players were black. Going back 15 years I was able to find only 3 or 4 black scholarship players on Marist rosters and one Bri Holmes left the program. That roster profile is so out of line with ANY other basketball program in the country it's made me wonder if coach Giorgis is not "comfortable" coaching black players. Did his incredible record of winning get him a pass on this issue.

It has nothing to do with being "comfortable" coaching - they have offered more scholarships to African American players the last few years then any other ethnic group. They just can't seem to convince them that Marist would be a good choice.
Ashley Martin, Shaq Edwards, and Alana Glimer are just a couple I know they went after hard.

This goes back 15 years , and why won't they come here, the Mens team has no problem recruiting black players. I think his recent offers to black players comes from Giorgis realizing athletically he can't match up with these teams, he had no choice.

Interesting conversation. I definitely noticed a lack of "athleticism" on the Marist roster.

Name the "athletic" Marist team that went to all those NCAA tournaments and knocked of the top 25 teams? Outside of Yarde name 1 - Allenspach? Gang? Best? O'Conner? Ockenden? NO - what they all had was a great understanding of the game, and what Marist tried to do along with the ability to hit the jumper and 3, as well as a defense minded attitude!!
A decade plus of incredible success and I would not characterize a singe Marist team as "athletic"

All of that is true, but you ignore the fact that Giorgis for 15 years did not bring black players into his program.

thoops - i let it go before but now that you are trying to make it out like Giorgis and Marist are racist I'm gonna call you out as a complete idiot who has no idea what is going on. They staff has been offering and continues to go hard after many African American players - in fact they have offered more scholarships to minorities then they have to any other other ethnic groups. If coach could chose their college for them you would see plenty of "athletic" kids on our team BUT guess what they choose to go elsewhere.
You have no idea how hard they do try to recruit all kinds of student athletes. Now some of it comes from Marist and its admission policy - a D. Martinez or a K Perryman couldn't get through admissions even if offered, not coaches fault.
I do think some of it is that they can not seem to get that 1st one to commit and when they visit they do not see any other "african americans" on the team and they don't want to be the first - AGAIN nothing coach can do.
Why not blame the black players for not accepting the offer to play!!!!

That number is a ridiculous effort to stir up needless controversy. But seeing as you only have a few posts on this site, that is obviously your intention here. In other words, another useless troll. Here are a few names you obviously missed. Shannon Minter, Fifi Camara, Alexis Waters, Danielle McCray, Corielle Yarde, Sydney Coffey, as well as Bri Holmes. I would also consider Natalie Gomez to be a woman of color. Scholarship students all. And as nomar33 mentioned, coach did actively recruit many other non-white athletes. So your effort to shame him, by basically playing the race card, is a thinly veiled troll tactic. Now go back to your superiors at Quinny, and tell them you failed.
