Wouldn't David Knudsen have to sit a year because he played overseas? Or is it only if he was paid? Btw Knudsen needs to get much stronger but he looks like our future PG, his vision and dribbling is impressive. J Jordan like ...

I don't think Knudsen needs to get that much stronger. That's his body type. Keep in mind, he's 6'4 or so. If he can play point, that's a hell of an advantage. The more I look at his tape, the more I like. You guys are right about the vision. Very nice stroke too. Hit's his foul shots. I really like the corps he's bringing in. If Daugherty's a walk on, that's pretty good. That means he has one to fill right???

Marist has signed 2 good players, one who might not play this year and good depth players. Lets not fool ourselves. An improvement, but lets admit what we have coming in.

I think that they've brought in two potential 1st Team All-MAAC caliber players and 2 very good shooters. I'll take it. You don't think Knudsen looks like a pretty good player?? He shoots the ball real well and has a pretty good handle and athleticism for a guy 6'4.. Plus, he's not 18.
I trust Maker.. I'm hoping they surprise some people this year and make a significant move upward in 2016-17. The next 3 signings are the key..
I like Daugherty too.. They brought in pretty well rounded players.

I guess 1 of the things I just don't understand is it looks like a lot of the players being brought in take up the same positions
Depth is good but we need to have multiple stars on the floor at the same time

Maker wants complete players on the floor. He might play a very small lineup if they can shoot well enough. One great team he had at Williams consisted of 5'11" and 6'3" guards, two 6'4" forwards and a 6'6" center. They gave up 2-6 inches at every position! However, every player could run, pass and shoot better than most of their competition. They got to the NCAA finals that year. The players Maker has brought in so far fit the complete player mold. One prediction I would make is that three point shooting stats this season will soar, maybe as much as 5-6%. With that improvement will come more wins. The players Maker is recruiting now will help build the program enough to allow him to recruit even better players a couple of years from now. Those players will allow Marist to become a dominant force in the MAAC. It is a building process.

While the MAAC isn't the ACC, the competition is much better than Div III.
Big players are more likely at this level to have the ability to defend shots, make shots and pass.
While I like Maker and think he is the right guy for the job, I'm not too sure how much improvement we will see with this year's team.

I think Toad's Williams team would have kicked the shit out of us the last 6/7 years

While I like Maker and think he is the right guy for the job, I'm not too sure how much improvement we will see with this year's team. I completely agree that the competition in the MAAC is tough. Given Marist's excellent academic profile and admission standards, I don't believe that they can consistently win playing the same way the rest of the MAAC plays. I think Maker was hired because he plays differently than most teams in nearly any league, but certainly the MAAC. This way of playing, with an emphasis on running, passing, and particularly shooting, can work very well at any level. Michigan has shown that it can be successfully used even at the highest level of college play. I think Maker has added some solid players to the team already, and that will make them somewhat better in the coming season. The addition of better big guys in the current recruiting cycle will continue that process. Look for steady progress, I'm sure that is what you'll get.
