The roster makeover continues. I wonder if the open spot goes the Kyle Daughtery?

Got Damn ... i felt like he would of been better than Troug. Im sorry, Troug plays too soft and confused for me. Who the hell are our centers? Not having any size really bothers me. Alot. Smh

Peta, they still have Tex, Brooks and Troug all 6'8" or taller. Tex and Troug are both centers.
I take it as an indicator that Coil was a bad fit for Makers system that he didn't get 1 minute of playing time in the regular season on a team that was desperate for offense and rebounding. Going JUCO gives him a chance to get the playing time he needs to improve and find a better fit for his skills as a transfer down the road.

Transferring was greatest contribution to the program. We need the 'ship.

I really like Tex ... he's more of a PF to me. Troug is a good student, better kid. Just not a D1 player. We need a center or 2 ... desperately. I trust Maker tho, so ill shut up now. #CommonSenseGenius Peta, they still have Tex, Brooks and Troug all 6'8" or taller. Tex and Troug are both centers. I thought they needed a spot if they were adding Knudsen and Daugherty. Hopefully, the big guys just play D and rebound. Truog can get you 8 a game with 8 boards. Hopefully, Lawrence has a strong finish and Obi steps up. They definitely have guys who can shoot it. Now lets see if he can get 2 bigs to build on. I trust him too Petagay. He's got a plan. And I think the guys he brought in are all "good basketball players". He's doing exactly what he said he was going to do. Get the best basketball players possible. They need to take a step forward this yr so a couple of athletic bigs will want to join the party...

Maker inherited a mess, unfortunately in order to get the program where it needs to be player changes need to be made.
CM recruited athletes, not basketball players and who knows what JB's vision was with some of his recruits.

Bigs must be the focus during next years recruiting period. Maker has added good basketball players to the team this year. I agree with fox94. Who knows what type of players JB was bringing in. IMHO He just brought in guys to fill out roster spots that he thought needed to be filled. Chuckie was an abomination and took the program to the lowest point it has ever been at. Yeah he recruited athletes but only one of his recruits now on the team will make a major contribution. Poor Mike Maker, he has to start from the beginning, from the bottom and build a winning program. He CAN DO IT! We all just have to give him the time he needs to turn this boat around.

Yea. Roster is starting to turn over and he has his first class in place. Hopefully Lamb gets into the rotation sometime during the season and the combination of Maker's new guys and the existing group who fit his system can change the trajectory of the program. You are so right about how taking steps forward as a program is absolutely essential to attract non-project type bigs. Brady was able to bring in James Smith when it became clear that Marist was turning the corner with Jordan, Whittington, Stilphen and Co. Build it right and it will garner better players attention.

I'm not sure Maker is done recruiting for this year. They may yet land one or two more additional players. Two or three of the guys they have so far are walk-ons, so there is additional room. The team next year will be better. My guess is they will win 12-15 games. They will make significant progress, setting the stage for much improved teams in future years.

So Clyburn plus two of either Daughtery, Funk and or Knudsen might be walk-ons? Has to be if Maker has designs on adding 2 more scholarship players though. Need to rethink the quality of the depth of this class if a guy or two don't get signed.

Why would we need or be excited for walk ons? If you had zero interest from DI teams how are you the tjype of player to help turn us around
.. I certainly hope Maker isn't "recruiting" walk ons

Funk was announced right? He's not a walk-on. Clyburn might be the only walk-on... There is no way Knudsen could be a walk-on. He's too good. I would think the same would be true with Daugherty..

According to verbalcommits.com Marist has 4 guys committed to scholarships next year, Knudsen, Parker, Funk & Lamb. (It also mentions that Coil is transferring.) There is no mention of Daugherty or Clyburn. I had heard that Daugherty was a walk-on. Daugherty was recruited by other colleges. Maybe he decided to attend Marist because of the level of education he would get. OR perhaps he received a promise that we do not know about for the future. I was recruited to run at a D1 school 40 years ago and they offered me a half scholarship. Maybe MM is offering half scholarships with the anticipation that the player would get to a full scholarship if they stay and deserve it. I can't tell which way the current basketball coaching staff is putting together this coming years team. I am confident that the recruits will all be good students and good basketball players. I am also confident that based on Mike Makers coaching history he'll have the Red Foxes on the winning track sooner than later.
