Ladies and gentlemen, I give you your 11th place, last place Marist College Red Foxes! Marist is locked in last now other than winning BOTH the SPU and Rider games. IF we win both we'll finish 10th or 9th (if FF beats NIA at NIA). That young FR and SO laden NIA team coming on stronger than we are down the stretch.

I don't think it should be out of bounds. I just think many of us feel that NIA has better players. They're young players are better than ours. Reid and Blackman can play. Snowden, Myers and Davis look like solid guys as well. They are all Fr or SO. We only have 1 FR or SO equal to or greater than that group of 5 (Hart). I think Lee will work out bur right now he's not better than any of those 5 NIA players.

Is the roster going to change in next couple of games? Then i do not know what you think is going to happen differently then what we have seen so far - (we lose Curry AND Lewis) - building around Hart. Then who?? Some guys we are hoping to become ok and serviceable? In game adjustments? With what?
I can see it now in the time out - "I want you to be able to hit these open jumpers that the offense has created" - "I know you can't hit the 3 but from now on i want you to"
There is nothing ANY coach on this planet could do to turn this group into a winning group - I'm thrilled that we are not getting blown out any more.
Just need to sit back and wait until he gets some recruits in here THEN if in 2 - 3 years we aren't seeing W's then you can start on the staff.

Any one who thinks that with a new, different coach this group of players would be much better this season than they are right now is smokin some really good s..t. It's the same players as last year. Please remember that two of the top six players were hurt for the first half of the season. Do you think that could have any impact on the development of the team this season? Maker has a good resume, a winning resume. But he has yet to have one of his recruits play for him at Marist. Everyone should be giving him a pass this year and start the judgement period once his recruits make up the majority of the team. MM has done a good job IMHO. Especially considering what was left for him to work with by Martin & Bower.

ctalum - I think it's fine to be critical but so far all I've seen is generic comments about being critical and nothing of substance of what you'd do differently. If you are confident that Maker is making mistakes and/or not making adjustments why don't you enlighten us on what you'd do differently. Then there can be a discussion of whether those tactics would be successful or not. Seems to me you're taking the easy way out by saying he's not getting it done but not putting yourself out there indicating what he's doing wrong and what you'd do differently.
This is not an attack on you in any way, just trying to get the conversation a bit deeper than where it's at right now.

But how smart is it to keep creating open 3's if they cant hit them? Ever think the other team knows Marist cant hit them and leaves those shots open? More of a devils advocate thing, but it could be argued.

I know Maker doesn't like that shot, but maybe that is Marists range. If you notice, Lewis hit a couple from 15 that looked a lot better than his 3 point attempts. I am sure Manny is better at those too.

The offense isn't designed to open just 3s. It should also produce drives to the hoop for lay ups, and producing a lot more foul shots than the other team gets. The problem is that one element depends on the other. If you can't make 3s, the lanes to drive the ball will be less open, and the foul shots don't follow. Any good team needs some good shooters. I have watched a bunch of league games, and the best teams can shoot, as well as rebound. At the moment, Marist can't shoot very well. That will change, but not immediately. The team shoots huge amounts of shots in practice, as well as before and after practice. What is needed is more shooters, as well as more well rounded basketball players. I really think that the team will be somewhat better next year, just because players will know what is expected of them. A new beginning can be a really good thing. I doubt that a good big will be available so late, so if that is true, hopefully the coaching staff can find a third really good basketball player. With three new players next year, things should get better, though a long way from perfect.

I'd settle for a 6'6 scorer. I think Connor and Lee will be fine. Connor just needs to know his talent and play confident. I see him and Lee being pretty good next year. I want Lee to be more aggressive. He's got the size. I think Parker starts from Day 1. 3 Guard offense.. Hopefully, Isaiah is at full strength by mid-season. From this point on, recruit pure shooters. Good mechanics..
