We all know this team has lots of problems. IMO the offense is the biggest. I have no problem with CM playing everyone in the first couple games...if he continues over the next 2 or so I can understand that as well.
With that said I think the guys that we all agree are below MAAC or even D-I talent have been showing that already this year.
So when a rotation is established I think it should look like this.
Bauer, Watson, Bowie, Prescott, Price starting. Rusin, Alexis and Kemp off the bench.
Prinsloo, Goodwin and Johnson to play when there are foul trouble/ injury issues.
My reasoning on Goodwin: I think he's been an outstanding citizen at Marist. He's done everything that has been asked of him. But, he is just extremely limited offensively. He's not mobile, not quick and cannot create his own shot or a shot for anyone else. He can't do anything that Price or Prescott could do at the PG position but those other guys have much more diverse games overall.
Anyway, Marist needs scoring and Rusin, Alexis, Price, Prescott and Bowie are the guys most capable of doing that on this team. With the above lineup each of these guys is on the floor for 25-30 minutes at the 1,2 and 3 (plus a few minutes of a 4 guard offense). No one gets burned out playing 40 like JJ and WW had to do, but they all are in there the majority of the time and can establish a rhythm. No offensive black holes in the game either like Hall.
What does everyone think?
CM??? let's try this out.

Nice job. I would would go 10 deep by adding Goodwin to the rotation as the 2nd point guard. I don't see anyone among those 9 who can run the team unless you want Prescott out there all the time. Sam has 3 turnovers for every assist, DeJuan has 2 assists for every turnover.
I wouldn't pen in Watson until I see Kemp in action for a couple of games. Neither Watson, Princeloo, or Bauer have shown any interest in rebounding through the first 2 games, maybe Kemp will show the stones to do the dirty work.

I agree Watson's spot is tenuous...really the front court should be decided by whoever is playing the best with the most effort. There is no dominant big man so you could really do a 4-man rotation at the 4-5.
I'm more concerned about the backcourt and wings. Marist has some good diverse players but they need to be allowed to get into a consistent rhythm.
Marist does not have a PG. It's certainly a problem. IMO Prescott and Price can both run the team better than Goodwin. Goodwin has the plus ratio right now but I would venture that Prescott (even with his poor shooting) created more offensive opportunities for himself and his teammates over the first two games than Goodwin did. Prescott's problem was he wasn't getting his shot to fall.
I think Sam has a decent shot. He was 17-42 last year (41%) from three. The shots will start to fall for him.

Kemp will be active tom for his first college action ... he is really excited! Watson is angry w/ the world and might hurt someone Friday night (ha) .. He is more disappointed in his play so far than any of us could every be (says he is his worst critic). Bowie was disappointed with his/team play and vow it will be better moving forward ...

Now that we are 5 games into the season, it should be easier for the coaching staff to figure out a playing rotation and stick with it. This is what I would like to see.
Starters Devin Price-PG Prescott-SG Alexis-SF Kemp-PF Bauer-C
Play a big lineup up front and reward Kemp for his hard work and energy. Watson until he decides to get in shape should not be rewarded with a starting spot he has not gotten close to earning.
After the starters
Rusin 5 minutes some games, 20+ other games (play him a lot if shot is falling, get him out quick if its not, as he provides nothing else, and harms team with TO and defense.
Bowie (Freshman, playing great, doesn't need pressure of starting right away as we have other guards, he is going to be a solid player, with increased production year to year. Let him grow into his role, not force feed him because they stink.
Watson- Once in shape, 20-25 minutes backing up center and PF spots. Who knows, looks like he has skills and can be a physical force, unfortunately would do better if this was the SUMO league and not the MAAC.
Goodwin-10-15 minutes backing up both guard spots
Hall, Johnson, Carter**, Prinsloo only in game in mopup duty on an as needed basis. Although, I have liked Carter in the moments he has played, he must be doing things wrong I don't see, so I will just go with it. I honestly think he is being held back like Kaylen Gregory was held back. But, have to trust the coaching staff who see him day in and day out, so he is out of rotation.

Can't not start Bowie. He, along with Bauer, are the most complete player on the team. Jay is doing everything better than Sam except get to the foul line. Much better shooter from distance. Jay and Sam have both taken the same number of shots so far and Jay has made a third more of his. Bring Sam off the bench against the opponents 2nd unit guard an I think he become a more productive player because he will have an easier time finishing at the rim. Sam needs a consistent jump shot to overtake Jay, IMO.
Assuming Price starts I have Goodwin backing him up with Hall the 3rd option at both the 1 and 2. With Carter not fully recovered I have Rusin backing up on the wing in a 3 guard lineup similarly to how the " Treacherous One" used Farmer. Carters situation really downsized the wing, and further exacerbates this teams most glaring problem, the 4 and 5. Lots more bodies too choose from, but not many good choices this early in the season.

I think Dorvell began to get his confidence back. He might have still been going at 3/4 speed due to the injury. I know we like to get on CM. Could he have really coached at St. John's and Memphis if he didn't know talent? He was a point guard in college. He knows the game. He's made mistakes. Some of his personnel mistakes (Drummond, etc.) were probably due to the fact that he wanted to turn areound the program as fast as possible. He rolled the dice. He lost. I heard Boeheim on the radio. He laughs at all of the talk show fans and "forum" fans. He says that they make stuff up and never have all of the facts that the coaches have. Sound familiar??? I think we'd all have to be at every practice and meeting to get the picture. Based on JGood's alleged facts, maybe he has. I want that access too...

Ggaff, how many coaches do you think have a worse winning percentage after this many games that Martin has coached? I would expect less than 10 maybe in the history of D1. Pure guess, but you know its gonna be low.

I'd have to compare it to an exact same situation. Probably not many similar. Not many guys inherited no junior or sophmore talent. That basically makes last year a given. If you can find me a similar situation, I'd like to see it. Normally, a guy has a shot in yrs 2 and 3 because he's got some functional guys. His first class was a salvage job. He had to take what he could get.
I'm not happy either. I just think he deserves four years. If he gets fired, I want Murray to get someone who is loyal and will win. Hopefully, the upgrade in facilities will help. I do think Morton can make a big difference. If CM doesn't work out, I want all the heat put on Murray to get the right guy.

P.S.
I'd say he's 5-7 wins short of what we could have been expected for a 3 yr total based on the garbage he inherited. Next year's all on him. If they suck, I'll be leading the charge for a change. I'd like to think the AD would just make the move. Why the hell did he give an unproven guy a 6 yr deal??

AD has done just fine for the Marist athletic department. That is his job description. ENTIRE SPORTS DEPARTMENT. Everyone makes mistakes. He has suffered through some mens basketball choices. Martins job description is fostering a positive experience for college aged men where they can learn and also win at basketball. He has had no success so far in these areas. The failure of this team so far is on the head coach, not the AD. No ones pefect, but Murray has proven a hell of a lot more than CM.
