Not good
Word on the inside is this largely had to do with two particular sports teams. No, not either basketball team. The kid named here not only tested positive, but also originally lied about the situation in some way. If a large amount of positive cases come out of this, they may not make it to Labor Day on campus.

It was just on Channel 4 news that Marist suspended more students from that party but I didn't hear the particulars.

It was just on Channel 4 news that Marist suspended more students from that party but I didn't hear the particulars. Somehow this will be blamed on TM:). But seriously, I am sorry. We are all going to blame these kids. But this was a freshman thing. They were at a party. Noone knew they had the virus. Noone had signs of the virus. We need a mindset change, and any student who faces serious consequenses over this has a good argument for a lawsuit against Marist IMO. DONT bring in 18 year olds for first time on their own and not expect them to party. Simple.

I heard they did a “hey mister” and TM bought the beer. No we agree completely on this Yankee. The 18-21 version of myself was invincible and would have a hard time following all the rules. Floating on an ice burg down Hudson with a six pack or walking across the train bridge back in 88 (didn’t have a walking path on it back then), both seemed like really good ideas.
The suspensions were perfect (not an expulsion) it is in a language that the kids will absolutely identify with. And now precedent has been set.

SUNY Chancellor Jim Malatras said Sunday that SUNY Oneonta is closing (remote only) for the next two weeks when over 100 students and staff tested positive for COVID. According to the Albany Times Union five students and three campus organization were suspended for hosting parties. A team from SUNY Upstate Medical University has been deployed to test all 3000 students in a process that began Friday. Last week 43 students from SUNY Plattsburgh were suspended for their connection to a party on Lake Champlain. The article goes on to mention Marist and Syracuse as the only two known private colleges who have had to discipline students over large gatherings.
I certainly would not want to be one of the students responsible for having the entire student body get a supersized Q-Tip shoved into my sinus for 15 seconds. This heavy handed expensive (for the campus) approach is going to put the pressure on College's to proactiively enforce social distancing. No way NYS is going to sit by and watch the positive test rate to rise again.

Another day, another hard lesson. UAlbany suspends athletic activities “indefinitely” over concerns with athletes attending parties.

William & Mary cutting 7 sports at the end of this school year, including a men's swimming squad that has won 6 consecutive CAA championships. Damn.

a settlement in a lawsuit from Brown student-athletes against the university results in the restoration of two of the five women's sports the school attempted to cut: fencing and equestrian. Golf, squash and skiing will still be reduced to club status.
