If he is a student, what a bad representation of himself.

That is not journalism. Marist should be ashamed a student of theirs published such a Hit job on one of their employees.

Point out all the parts of his story that were inaccurate? Kudos for publishing it - no worry about being politically correct or hurting peoples feelings just telling it how it REALLY is (right now anyway - can change, hope it changes)

He basically said he watched Dunne during game instead of game. That came across as fatal attraction. Dunne needs to file order of protection.

I find it astonishing that a student cares this much about the MBB more than anything else ..He makes some good points .but the general consensus is that 4 years is a good benchmark ..Look at the patience Colgate had with Matt Langel ..Had some mediocre years before he became one of the more talked about coaches around . 4 years of 7 win ball is going to get anyone fired . So like we all say ,,Marist mBB team next year has to give us more ,.I probably wrote same stuff about Maker after his first 2 years ,,but Maker wasn't accomplished at d 1 and hadn't proved anything to anyone at that time .I just don't think the author fully knows how the process works .it takes time .No one is even considering firing him after 2 years ..I think we can all agree on that one.

Eesh, maybe I was wrong in the other thread about top academics..lol
But seriously, these are pretty bad takes.
"I’ve never seen John Dunne talk to a player individually, at least not during a game."
I've seen it multiple times, probably every game. With Cavanaugh, Jones, Tordoff, various players during free throws, etc. Dunne doesn't do it every time a player comes out, but that's what assistants are for.
"The team’s reliance on guard play never led to success in year’s past, and yet “point guard” Michael Cubbage repeatedly – and wrongfully – had the ball in his hands in the game’s closing minutes this season. Marist lost 10 games by five points or less this season, including the game last night. Who’s been the man to record the final shot attempt in many of those efforts? Don’t people know that insanity is just doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result?"
Has he watched games? Cubbage has taken his fair share, but there's also been St. Furcy, Bell on many occasions, Herasme (in that very Siena game he mentioned).
"I don’t think he has a grasp on game trends or hot streaks; in a game against Canisius on February 2, Dunne played Jordan Jones for a mere seven minutes"
Game trends and hot streaks...like the one Tordoff had that very game going 5-5 from the field off the bench. That game was lost on 2 end of game 3 pointers, it didn't matter who was at the 5 spot.

This article makes many true points albeit a little harsh. Dunne's tenure at Marist has not been good yet, but I am not ready to say it was a waste of hire. We only lost one player from this team (you can take that as positive or negative) so you hope of those 10 losses by 5 or less, we can pull like 6 or so of those out and maybe finish around 0.500. Still not great, but definitely a step in the right direction.
I sometimes will look over at the bench and Dunne gives the look of a frustrated parent. He keeps telling them what they should be doing and they don't execute. This is the kind of demeanor he has. He won't be the guy that is clapping every second Greg Paulus does on this side line. He is a guy that expects a lot and does not do well when you mess up. I remember him being the exact same at St Peters. He had a total of 11 wins (6 conference) in his first 2 season at St Peters, so there is still hope, but for people who don't follow the MAAC closely, as this author flat at says he doesn't, it would seem as though this will be no different.

It was a hatchet job by what appears to be an immature student. Simple as that. It was not analytical about basketball. It was personal attack reporting. Marist should be embarrassed one of their students could write something so vile about one of their employees.
