Pitino gets another PG. According to Verbal Commits he also had offers from NC State and Temple (and about a dozen others including MAAC teams Siena, Manhattan, and Canisius).

Iona should be fun to watch. And a lot of people will be watching.
The other brilliant part of this hire is that his buy out is somewhere in the range of $10 million. If Pitino can stay clean for a couple of years Iona could be in for a very nice cash haul.

Could you imagine Marist doing this?
No, me neither

I still remember his name being thrown out on this board (not actually seriously) when we were looking for a coach and we thought it would be crazy for him to come to the MAAC. Now I am not saying Marist has the same reputation as Iona basketball wise, but still 2 years later I would not have thought he would be coaching in the MAAC

Of course at this point im looking forward to just about any game from any sport .

Pitino was on Jon Rothsteins podcast. Hasn't met any of the team. Feels the "cupboard is bare". Recruits like the idea of playing right away. Hasn't really been to campus. Wants to run a more motion-style offense (similar to what he ran in Greece) Wants to eventually follow the Gonzaga model of scheduling home and homes and tough netrual site games. Mentioned wanting to have games at MSG a lot. Liked Iona because he knew their President. Was basically only coming back to the NCAA if he knew the AD and President, otherwise staying in Europe or going to the NBA m.soundcloud.com/compass-media/college-hoops-today-with-jon-rothstein-ionas-rick-pitino
