baseball swept Manhattan at Dutchess Stadium today to take the series after losing the opener yesterday. Kind of a wild finish as Marist scored twice in the top of the 9th to take a one-run lead, then gave up a run in the bottom of the 9th following a dropped fly ball. Manhattan had the bases loaded with one out bottom 9 but reliever Nick Cantone slammed the door on the Jaspers, then got the win when the Foxes scored 7 runs in the 10th. Quite the emotional swing.
The dumbest baseball of the day was clearly up at Iona-Niagara btw. First game of today's DH, the Purps lead 9-0 in the 7th (7 inning game). Niagara proceeds to walk six Gaels, plunk three more and toss a wild pitch. Iona scores six runs without getting a hit and has the tying run on base when they finally ground out to end it. Then Iona scores two touchdowns in the nightcap and wins 14-0.
EDIT: oh wait, more wackiness. Quinny and Siena wait around for hours for the rain to stop, then go 13 innings in their finale which ends when the Q-Pac right fielder drops the third out and the Siena runner scores all the way from first. Meanwhile in Buffalo, they had to play 20 innings today because the first SPU-Canisius game was halted due to rain last night in the 5th, then they played their regular doubleheader. Griffs won all three to take over first place.
Weird and wild MAAC stuff certainly doesn't stop when basketball season ends.

Not sure if anyone here ever got to do Head of the Charles while in college - in the late 80's you were allowed to have open kegs on the river - there where over 100 colleges all drinking along the Charles and Harvard Square at night was a college kids paradise.

A factor that has quietly dinged Marist's chances in the CC race the last few years is the MAAC discontinued the men's rowing championship after spring 2016. Those were reliable points on their ledger.

Impressive hire. Could be decent in the MAAC next year. A good amount of talent just a disappointing loss in the MAAC tourney.

Women's lacrosse wins on the road at Manhattan in the MAAC quarterfinals. Down 13-10 with six minutes left, Marist rallies and wins 15-14 on a goal with 7 seconds left.
Samantha Mehalick scored 11 goals, which might be a program record, including the winner. Foxes to the semifinals at Fairfield next weekend, waiting on Canisius-Siena to see if Marist will play the Stags or Monmouth.
Mehalick has 72 goals on the year, which seems like a lot.

Both lacrosse teams seem to be peaking at the right time. Great win for the Lady Foxes.

Can’t seem to beat Wagner. Another good year but at #2.

"finished off its season with a sixth straight appearance in the MAAC Championship Final" - they are 0-6 in that time..... need to win a few of those to be successful IMO

I don't know what exactly happened, but the MAAC women's tennis championship was apparently decided very controversially. Q and Fairfield were tied 3-3, the last singles match went into the third set, the score was only 1 game apiece in the third set and the recap says the Quinny player was assessed a "match violation" and bam, she lost, boom, Stags win the title.
This is the first time that Quinnipiac has EVER lost to a MAAC team in women's tennis since they joined the league, and I believe even farther back to when QU went Division I.
What is a "match violation"? Did she yell at the umpire? Illegal racquet?
