Calista Phippin ranks 5th (19th overall) among D1 Freshman pitchers as of 3/26. Her era is 1.27. She trails only Frosh pitching for Texas, Alabama, UCLA, and Northwestern. Phippin's teammate Kallen Leesburg ranks 30th overall in ERA at 1.42.
Keep mowing 'em down Red Foxes.

in the first of (weather co-operating) 110 MAAC games over the next 5 weeks, Monmouth's 6'1" sophomore Alyssa Irons threw a 7-inning perfect game today vs. Niagara. Irons was a 2017 CAA All-Rookie Team selection at Hofstra and redshirted last year.
Marist will host the the defending MAAC champion Hawks on April 20. If the coaches match up Irons against Phippen, it might get dark before someone scores.

Marist 5, Fairfield 1; Claire 2-run dinger, Morgan Gianelle 3-run dinger; Phippen CG, 5 K
Marist 8, Fairfield 2; down 2-0 in the 5th the Foxes erupt for 8 runs over the next two innings. Claire 3 more RBI. Megan Beiermeister comes out of the bullpen for 3.2 scoreless innings to shut down the Stags.
Awesome start to MAAC play. Iona tomorrow afternoon in Poughkeepsie, noon start.

not an April Fools Joke: Jen Fay has joined the Quinnipiac softball team. I'm following the live stats of both Iona-Marist and SPU-QU and she just pinch hit for the Bobcats.
EDIT: Phippen outduels Iona's own rookie ace Kara Zazzaro for a 1-0 win in the opener. Gaels pitching quality drops off hard after her while Marist has good options for G2.

I'm guessing Claire will look forward to call those at bats. The kid vs the Whammer redux.

Monmouth won 6-0 and lost 53 vs. Rider. We a tied with Monmouth for 1st place at 7-1.
Ayslla Irons 1st game at Q-PAC 7 ings. 0 runs 1 hits 2nd game at Q-PAC 5 ings. 0 runs 0 hits
1st game at Ryder 7 ings, 0 runs 4 hits 2nd game at Ryder 4.1 ings 0 runs 2 hits
23.1 ings. 0 runs 7 hits.
The big question is, can she pitch every game of the rest of the season. It doesn't seem that they have any other pitcher yet.

the bottom line is still that to win the MAAC tournament you have to beat Irons - as long as they advance and there is no rain, you don't have to play twice the same day. She really is carrying Monmouth; they don't have the hitting they did last season.
Shocked that it was Rider - only Saint Peter's would have been more of a stunner - to break Monmouth's MAAC winning streak. The Broncs split with Marist last year but haven't won a game in Poughkeepsie since 2009. They meet at Marist in 3 weeks.

named to the NFCA Top 25 Freshmen Watch List earlier in the week, Calista Phippen uncorks a 4-hit shutout with 9 strikeouts against Monmouth this morning in Game 1; Foxes scratched out two runs in the second against Alyssa Irons and that stood up for the 2-0 win. Game 2 coming up shortly.
