if you haven't noticed - Calista Phippen a freshman pitcher on the women's softball team you need to start. She has 5 of our 6 wins.

the team scored 37 runs in its first four games and just 9 runs in its last 8 games...amazing that they've actually clawed out a 3-5 record in that span. Hopefully Claire can be a big part of changing that as MAAC play approaches later this month.

I work with Calista Phippin's dad. I was super excited when he told me she decided to enroll at Marist on a Softball Scholarship. She pitched for our local high school and basically owns the record book for the softball program. She was the NYS Pitcher of the Year once, maybe twice. She is a flat out steal for Marist. She can get her fastball up to 65 mph according to dad. Really a once in a generation kind of recruit for a MAAC team. She had offers from all over the country including as far away as the PAC 12. I told her dad that she was going to have a fabulous battery mate in Claire. I understand today that Claire knocked in the winning run against FDU helping Calista get her 5th win. Great stuff.

Foxes walk off FDU again, down 6-0 in the 6th they score 6 to tie, then win when Knights catcher throws it away on a steal of 3rd. Phippen didn't pitch, probably going against UC Davis later today.

Phippen moves to 6-0 and Marist defeats Santa Clara 5-2. Phippen struck out six in a complete game victory. Her streak of not allowing an earned run reached 26.1 innings before it ended in the third inning.

the first RPI rankings of the season were released today. 7 of the 11 teams in the MAAC are in the bottom 35 teams in D1. Saint Peter's is second to last outside the MEAC-SWAC duo (low budget leagues that have no ability to spend more than like 5 dollars a year per Olympic sport) ahead of only Cornell.
Marist is tied for 218th with Purdue-Fort Wayne, but that's 3rd in the MAAC behind Fairfield (62!!) and defending champ Monmouth (133). The Stags are 11-3 to start the year and have a chance to be one of the rare 40+ win MAAC teams like Marist was in I think 2013.

doubleheader tonight at Pacific; Claire hit a 3-run homer and the Foxes scored twice in the 8th to win the opener. Video link for G2: watchstadium.com/live/2019-03-23-marist-at-pacific-softball-2/also, baseball won at a decent Richmond team to open a series today, Marist is the first MAAC team to reach 7 wins. UPDATE: 11-6 win in the nightcap. Really good road sweep against a warm weather team while using only the #3, 4 and 5 pitchers.

Fairfield hit a rough patch and dropped 136 spots in just 1 week. Monmouth holding basically steady at 134. The Hawks shut out Wagner twice yesterday and are ready to try and defend their title. Marist opens MAAC play Sat-Sun at home against Fairfield and Iona. Weather should be beautiful, come on out if you're local.

swept Holy Cross on the road today. Both games were 5-1. Both Phippen and Leeseberg threw 1-hitters. That seems good, and also symmetrical, which is good too.
