Marist 30 Butler 21 Final Offense was strong today and Defense held when needed. Big Win, need to win next week against Morehead State. We could have a drastically different feel for this program if they keep this going and include a home win over San Diego. Special teams seems a concern though, right? Maybe . . .fingers are crossed. Understand that both Butler and upcoming Morehead are having down seasons, so the real tests will come against Dayton, USD and Jacksonville. The Foxes will need to play far better to beat those three teams.

Folks - we've had way too many PATs, FGs, punts blocked. So STs are a concern, though our kicker is much improved. But remember, I believe G'town blocked 2 FGs?!?!? If one goes in its a tie ballgame. Both we win. Unfortunately, this is the standard history of Marist FB. Yes, O and D lines are concerns. Both are playing OK, but more consistency is needed. D line only because our lack of pass rush will be a problem against Dayton and USD. Jacksonville has moved to a "run down hill" offense, so shredding blocks will be a key. For the O, we run a spread offense focused on quick reads and releases; quick blocks that open running lanes. The issue is maintaining those blocks beyond the initial quick burst. I've maintained for years that FB is won in the trenches. We have good, even better than average skill players, but if your QB is running for his life or Safeties are consistently having to make tackles, we're in trouble. That said, great win yesterday. FYI - Morehead is having a down year, (was supposed to be a possible PFL champ) so a strong outings gets us to .500 ball.

Wonder how many passing yards there would have been if QBs weren't throwing into 17MPH winds for 2 Qtrs.
