As much as I loved DD, if Martin can land someone who can stick a j with half of DD's penetrating ability, they will be better off. There were way too many times where he was wide open and just wouldn't shoot. I loved the guy. He deserved a better fate. If he could shoot, he'd be the best. Don't give up on Hall yet. He did pretty well , considering he was a freshman. I liked LB. Hard worker but definitely struggled. They'll be fine. The above are my sentiments as well...as a matter of fact RJ Hall is someone who can stick a J with half of DD's driving ability. I'm not sure if CM will or even should fill the two scholarships for next year. You can only play 8-10 guys and I like the all around quality coming in. I think the point will be fine with Kaba and Hall both more than capable of manning it. When Kaba is at the 1 Marist will have the ability to put a large, strong athletic line-up out there...one they may not be rivaled in the MAAC in terms of strength and athletiscm. The 4 is my concern for next year...lots of 2-3 players, some guys who can play point, three 5's but I see Dorvell Carter as the only MAAC level 4 type player (and I have'nt seen him play enough to know if he really can hang at the 4 or if he's more of a 2-3 himself.) I think Bauer and Vouyoukas are too slow to play the 4 in the MAAC, especially in the dribble drive. A good 4 at this level should be 6'6" to 6'8", athletic and be able to not only score under the hoop but also drive and knock down an open jumper. Korey and Alex I think are best suited to back up the 5 as they lack the athletiscm and ball handling ability to be a force at the 4, despite their size...just my opinion.

There is a big guy that Marist was involved with named Teague. Is he still available. I know Oldfox really wanted the guy here if I remember correctly. Built like a bull, suppossedly has a good inside game within 8 feet. 6'8, 235 maybe, something like that. Maybe sign one big guy and then save the other for next year.

Brady made a similar player move before ever coaching a game at Marist when he gave Kerry Parks the heave-ho. Parks wouldn't get with the program so Brady decided they needed to part ways. I don't remember too many dissenting opinions even though Parks was a major recruit out of Texas by Marist standards at the time.
We don't know what kind of relationship LB and Martin have, but we do know he was sat for a game and basically lost playing time as the season progressed. That being said, its hard to take sides based on the lack of information, but not difficult to feel for the kid and his family. As I wrote to someone before, this is not like Marist, but neither has been winning MAAC Championships. In the end if this was a cheap move for expediency sake by Martin, then it will come back to haunt him with the fans.
I know we love to hate Brady, but Marist has to take a hit on the DD eligibility thing. President Reagan used to love to say "trust, but verify". Hopefully Marist has the Drummond transfer in perfect order.
I like RJ but not so much as a point guard, and hopefully Kaba will fill that role. Anyway you look at it this is a set back in the short term. It has to be temping to go the JUCO route, but I hope they resist, and either save it, or go with a late signing. I always get over the late signing thing by remembering Kenny Hasbrouck was signed in the spring.
If some of these young guys develop, Alex and Korey in particular, they can challenge for a top half finish. It's gonna be so much fun seeing this made over roster grow and build together.

Excellent post Oldfox. If Kaba can play some point, Marist really could explode next year. Bauer still needs to make big strides. He has the talent. Just needs to harness the energy.

You're right, there were very few dissenting fans when Brady/Marist dismissed Parks. It was very clear, however that Parks was being shown the door because of his behavior, character, etc., it wasn't because he didn't have the talent to be very successful in the MAAC.

As for Bauer and Alex at this point, unless they've put some muscle on or have started to make great strides in terms of their game, I am not comfortable with either of them getting significant playing time next year. Both of them have the height we desperately need at the 4 (and back up center) but the thing is that Bauer most of the time doesn't like being inside and rather relies heavily on his average jumpshot; then you have Alex who is always downlow but is way too soft to make a strong offensive move or boxout for a rebound.
Also, as to Red Fox 5's post before...I've seen Dorvell Carter scrimmaging with the team and also have played some pickup ball with him and he definitly isn't a 4. He plays more of the 2 but he is a very good rebounder so is capable of playing the 3. (I've seen him listed as 6-6 or 6-7 on recruiting websites but in person he looks more 6-4ish maybe slightly bigger).

You guys are all right on in your assessments. I agree if Kaba plays the point. They will be strong and long on the perimeter. I like the idea of RJ being instant offense off the bench. I agree about Dorvell. He'll be best utilized for mismatches at the 2 or 3. He played down low at Rice, so he is tough. He actually battled Samuels of Louisville. We know he's a beast. You don't want to waste him there though. He's a very good perimeter player. If Kaba can handle the point, that gives them some real scoring punch on the perimeter. Bauer frustrates me. I think he runs the floor well, has a little mean streak in him. He should get better. Vouyoukas just needs to get tougher. He looked like a guy that had barely played basketball last year. He must have skills though. He played well against good comp in high school and was recruited fairly heavily. I want him and Bauer in the weight room non-stop. If they had a Drew Samuels type to play the 4, they'd be all set. About Parks, I think he would have been a star. I wonder if he even played somewhere else.

This is never gonna happen, but maybe Chucky's old buddy Norm Roberts can send Thshwan Edmondson over to us...he's a 6-3 freshman point guard that is transferring out of St. John's rivalshoops.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=74936This kid could be the next Cedric Jackson for a mid-major team. (for those who don't know, Jackson transfered from the Johnnies to Cleveland St. and led them to 2 great years including a win over Wake Forest in the tourney this year).

In answer to Yankee's inquiry regarding Eugene Teague, he's reportedly visiting So. Illinois 4/17. The following week he's scheduled a visit to Western Kentucky. After those two visits, he'll then make a decision between those two schools and Coastal Carolina. Got that pearl off the Iona board.
The search for a 4 to compliment Caz continues!

Thanks Alum for finding that info out. Obvious from that list that being in the Northeast is not a goal of his:). Anyone hear if Marist plans to use one of the two new schollies that have opened this signing period?
