I actually believe we have the least athletic kids in the conference ... it's more exciting when u have great athletes and good coaching but we all know that great coaching is the key. And we clearly haven't had that in years. Maker will put our student athletes in the right position to be successful. #SpursExample The man is such a common sense guy. Met him at the DMV the other day, really cool guy ... very focused man and repping the Marist gear around town. Coach has something to prove. I'm glad we got him!

Our best team ever might have also been our least "athletic" kids - Jordan, Farmer, Whittington, Smith, Stillphen.... so "athletic kids" is not what translates into wins.

Marist is the most intriguing team in the MAAC. The Team is led by two all MAAC'ers in Lewis and Hart. Comfortably among the best players in the league. (Yet, externally, there are no expectations for success) Solid, experienced, versatile players in Manny and TJ to spot start and lead the "second unit". Then a roster full of hungry, talented young guys scrapping for roles. Colletta, especially, has the potential to provide an impact this year. Then, of course, there is the X factor - Coach Maker. His bona fides seem ideal for Marist. Long apprenticeship at a variety of D1 institutions including several years under top shelf Head Coaches. Very successful results as a head coach for 6 years, and an demonstrated ability to attract winning players to his system (Brian Parker chose Marist over Cleveland St.). Knows what Marist means by "Student Athlete".
Never felt better about how the program is being managed and it's direction.

I totally agree Oldfox. Any time you have 2 of best 10-15 players in the league, you can't be in horrible shape. Their kids bring a lot to the table. I'm very confident in this coach. I feel like the other teams may be outcoached this year. If he fills the last two spots with kids as good as Parker, we're have something really good going on. Remember, he said it will explode.

I think Marist has a decent chance at being the team that finishes 5th. I don't see them cracking the Manhattan, Iona, Siena, St. Peters top 4. BUT, none of those teams are unbeatable come MAAC tourney time:).

I have really low expectations based upon being "burned" in previous years around the talent. I reference last year to top maac talents (Kemp and Lewis) and pre-season freshman team member (Hart). We all know how that worked out. Just being competitive (no big blow-outs on the losing end, avoiding extended losing streaks and winning a few road games will be strange in and of itself.
I also need to see this great hidden gem of a coach in action before getting amped up. I will agree the incoming kids look great on paper and in the highlight reels. However it needs to come together even to meet my low level expecataions

Any word on the second scrimmage? Maker said they scored 87 points in the 1st scrimmage. We can score, just have to reb & play team defense ...
