It will be fine. We will get there. Our girls need to weather 2 more games where they will be just over matched in Louisville & Purdue/LSU. After that we can play with the schedule.
Our freshman have too much talent not to improve from here - just need the confidence. Need to practice where Tori and Coffey CAN'T shoot the ball. (I'm joking here of course)
At least Clement is not afraid to shoot - her 3 pt shooting HAS improved .214 last year .348 so far this year against great competition - her other shooting will improve.
AGAIN the biggest obstacle these girls have is not Louisville it is themselves and belief and confidence. Can it survive this OOC schedule.

I agree just need to get the confidence going on these women, many of us maybe expected too much for a Freshman to come in and give us 10 ppg from day one. I also agree that a player who is playing 20 min needs to feel more comfortable in taking a shot or creating a shot (whether it goes in or not)
I may be way off base here but I watched coach take Lovisa out of the game and yell at her on the bench right after she made a defensive mistake. That can't happen IMO with these kids - you can't be scared you will be yelled at if miss a shot or blow assignment - you will over think everything and become too hesitent

Now is the time for them to gain confidence........take those shots, this is where you learn what you can or can't do against quality competition....you can't score if you don't make an attempt........and surprisingly I think they will find that they can score.....and once they become confident in themselves and then their teammates.........look out MAAC.....

Nomar, I'm turning purple holding my breath. I don't think any of us thought this out of conf schedule would easy, and we knew the frosh may struggle, but I have to say I haven't been overly impressed so far with them.i hope they change my mind over the next few weeks. I know we have time and coach is great at molding players, but these girls look like deer in the headlights, esp mf . Althectisim is wonderful, but it doesn't always translate into great basketball players and sometimes the converse is true aka Larry bird. It was painful watching the game last night, just shoot the ball or drive it, the ball does not go in the hoop by itself

I will look back on these blogs and laugh when we start 7-1 in the MAAC. From your lips to God's ears. To paraphrase what I heard in the post game after St. John's, Coach made the point that -within the offensive system- the players that should be getting the ball in certain situation still aren't and opportunities are missed as a result. That will take time and experience. We all know that given a choice would rather ease the average freshman into roles, rather than throw them right in. Not an option this year so it's going to take time and experience for the system to become grasped and articulated on the court by the players in a manner to which coaches and fans are accustomed. I suspect that the first two games this weekend won't do much to advance that cause, but the 3rd game probably gives them a chance to work on things and see results. I am very confident that by the first of the year we will recognize the motion again. The defense is getting better too, and lost in the offensive disaster that was the St. John's Game, Marist out rebounded a much more athletic team. Frankly the poor shooting is worrisome. An open jump shot or a wide open layup against against St. John's or Delaware is the same as one against a MAAC team. A lot of these shots haven't even been close. I don't see any reason why that changes magically when the opponent is name St. Peter's or Fairfield.

Quinn playing Temple right now on Quinn's website. It'll be interesting to see how they do against our final foe from last year.

Bobcats hold on by their claws for a 58-56 win against Temple in Conn. Great win for the MAAC and Quinny. Qpac has a nice blend of seniors and a couple of freshman that contribute. Temple had beaten University of Florida and LaSalle. Lost to Rutgers and now the Bobcats.
Not sure why the Bobcats were picked for 3rd by the coaches. Even more quizzical after seeing them in action today.

#1 Stags get pressed into 22 turnovers and oblivion in a 14 point home loss at home to Hofsta. Stags come up small in their first game against team with an Sagarin Rating better than 254.

Lots of turnovers.........Hofstra made 21 turnovers also............Fairfield is still hitting over .400 from the field..........just didn't hit the 3's or try many...........maybe the competition is heating up......

It is really hard to try to put a positive spin on this season so far but there is some good. Again I am more nervous about what is happening behind the scene, in locker room, off the court, and at practice.
Most (ALL) of these women have probably NEVER seen a 7 game losing streak. And when you look at the next 5 games - you don't feel much better Quinny (4-2 w/win at Temple), Fairfield (3-1 with win at LaSalle), Boston University (0-5) THIS could be our first win should be our first win assuming we don't get one in the MAAC first, Hofstra (5-1 destroyed Fairfield), and Princeton (5-1). Now some of these are at home so lets home that helps.
Our Sophs have not been bad Clement has improved her 3 point shooting and just needs to get the jump shot back from last year. Baab has given much better minutes although they still seem limited she seems to be coming along.
The Freshman are Freshman but we are seeing some growth
Fitzpatrick has slowly gotten herself more involved, looking to create more shots for herself - last 3 games went from taking 2 shots to 5 shots to 10 shots, she also gets herself to the line. Oberdorf is the one that exudes the most confidence in her game she too seems to do well in drawing a foul Henningsdottir will be a solid big in this league just needs to work on game around the hoop - she is taking more shots just need to start getting them to fall.
Tori has been Tori but there is way to much focus on her by the other defenses and no one is doing enough to take that pressure off, Coffey seems to be pushing it maybe too hard she is way off her career averages in FG% and 3Pt%

There is some good - in addition to the incoming class next year we will add Jossart who is supposed to be a great 3 point shooter. I know he wants to hold that scholarship until 2017 but we need a true big for next year - he has never gone JUCO (I believe Fifi was here when he got here) but this might be the time. (YES Nomar I know there isn't a store where you can just go to isle 5 for your good centers)

(YES Nomar I know there isn't a store where you can just go to isle 5 for your good centers) Fifi was one of two Juco's that came that year. Don't remember the others name since she didn't stay nor do I remember if his staff recruited them. Bottom line is that Fifi was extremely successful at Marist. So much so he hired her as a DBO. He has accepted several transfers including the current center and 2 players without whom there would be no Sweet 16 Banner, Viani and Dahlman. I think a JUCO is beyond a long shot based on past practice. But there is good history with transfer success and still a viable route to go if you want a center eligible with the class of 2017.
