Well with Tori out to start year who is the starting 5? I would be very surprised if a freshman starts but they should get plenty of min early - 3 guard set? INJ S. Rosales A. Clement T. Jarosz my guess and that is all this is - C/F K. Fogarty F S. Coffey SG/SF M. Blais PG Lai or Martinez (guessing senior will get first shot at it) Then it got no idea - only way to go bigger is Baab or Birchmeier both freshman or use Holmes or Van Horn at the #2 That is a very short bench early on ... my guess is there is gonna be some serious struggles early, with that tough though schedule. Lets see who surprises us this year - there always seems to be someone who takes their game to a different level then year before.

I came up with the same setup and concerns, but I’d like to add that when Jarosz is back, the program’s continued success will depend primarily on her. She had some very good games last year and some not so good (in the Iowa game she had a really bad time). I realize Big Ten play is not equivalent to that of the Metro Atlantic and it is especially different when it comes to the center position. Perhaps her co-captain role will give her the motivation to play at a high level consistently – I really hope so.

I too had the same lineup.
I'm hoping Lai gets the nod over Martinez. She has a greater upside & what appears to be an extremely high b-ball IQ, which is critical for a PG.
If one of the Frosh bigs can play adequate D, they may get a start if the matchups dictate size rather than speed, but I suspect (like Nomar) that Holmes or VanHorn get the 5th slot.
As for the D, I'm concerned & wouldn't be surprised to see more zone this year.
I had originally thought Rosales would be the surprise this year, but given her injuries, I'm leaning toward Fogarty.

For what it's worth (no inside info, just opinions):
Kat Fogarty will step up and be a major force this year. In fact, while I can't wait to see Tori back on the court, this may give Kat the early minutes that she needs to get comfortable in a new role.
I was impressed with Bri Holmes in limited minutes last year, but I also think Van Horn has the ability to be an impact player; she reminds me of Erica A...and yes, I know, she's not Erica, but she has the same complete game.
I agree that Lai has a great upside, and brings a level of speed and court sense to the game that nobody else has demonstrated yet...so I'm hoping she starts.
Having not seen the freshmen yet, it's hard to tell. But likelihood of starting this early is - based on history - pretty slim.
All in all, a very challenging pre-season, and regular season. But we're the only team with Brian G.

Speaking of Erica - shouldn't her number be along side Fitz?

You watch the Goredfox video and you see Tori in crutches and you wonder how bad the injury really is, then you see Clement and Rosales on the court. Wish we would here from coach and Marist rather then just the unreliable PoJo

I think the battle for PG will be reminiscent of Best vs. Caron. They will battle it out well into the season but will inevitably come down to who out-hustles who.

AP preseason poll is out. Three Marist opponents - Baylor, St. Johns and Albany - all garnering at least vote(s).

Albany continues its ascension across the entire AD.
Siena will be losing a lot of fans over the next decade IMO.

That poll was created before there two starting seniors did not return for Albany. One being the 6'9" player plus the second leading rebounder on the team.

Is South Dakota Mines D-III or D-II. What I can't understand is why Marist doesn't allow fans at there exhibition games.

They have a couple of scrimmages which are closed to the fans per NCAA rules. I can't remember the last time either Marist team played and exhibition game. Maybe during the Dave Magarity year's? All these exhibition games are played against a D2, D3 or traveling team. Duke played Limestone College and UConn plays Gino's Alma Mater West Chester. Even the elite D1 program coaches must think they get some benefit from these mismatches because the continue to play them. For others there can be a downside. Already this season 3 mid-low majors have lost an exhibition game.
