This is speculation on my part - but all these women have been connected to Marist in some form.
Sydnie Rosales (5-9 SG) Saratoga Sparks/Colonie H.S.: Shooter, shooter, shooter. She has big-time range on her three. Will also attack the rim. Possesses great court vision and never gets rattled on the floor. If given the opportunity, she wants the ball in the clutch and will deliver. Needs to work on mid-range game and, then, will be complete. Leaning toward Central Connecticut, Sacred Heart, Hartford. Verbal to Marist
Amani Tatum (5-6 PG) NYC Bulldogs/Archbishop Molloy H.S.): A smooth, lightning-quick guard who can break your ankles with her speed and quickness. She also has a pull-up jumper and showed three-point range here. She is adept at penetrating and kicking to open teammates. Nice court vision with excellent ball-handling skill. Knows how to use her speed. She directed the championship team here.
Kayla Burton (5-7 PG) Bay State Jaguars/Newton South H.S. ESPN Top 100 4 Star 91 Score: A great floor general with unbelievable court vision. Has great range, out to 22-foot territory, and can stop on a dime and hit the pull-up jump shot. Very good foul shooter. Great ball-handler with a high basketball I.Q. Tenacious defender who loves to get out in transition. She finishes well with both hands. Always seems to find the open teammate. Continuous energy and never gets fatigued. Works hard at her game off the court, too. Verbal to Lehigh
Kelly Hughes (5-11 PG) Point Pleasant NJ/ Red Bank: ESPN Top 100 3 Star 88 Score: With good size and perimeter skills this is someone to keep an eye on. A 5-10 point guard from Point Pleasant, N.Y., she's smooth, athletic and mobile. Her individual skills are sharp and her court instincts are advanced for her age. The left hand needs to come along but she can get to the rim and often finds herself at the line. Her perimeter shot is out in front of her a bit and could use some attention but it won't scare anyone off. She's active defensively and anticipates impressively in pressing situations. Physically, she may well have the potential to grow some more as well. VERBAL BOSTON COLLEGE
Katharine Fogarty (6-2 F) Peterborough NH/Governor’s Acadamy: is the #1 ranked girls player from NH from the Class of 2013. She's 6'2", she can hit threes, put the ball on the floor and drive to the rim and block shots. She makes plays inside and outside and is a very smart player as well. And even though she is only a junior, Fogarty has already made her college decision. VERBAL to Marist
Alana Dudley (5-8 PG) Whippany Park NJ / Whippany Park HS: lead her team to their first ever Sectional title and helped amass over 88 wins in under four years. Nice article here: soar-nj.com/index.php/winter-sports/basketball/item/282-whippany-park
Emilee Daley (6-2 G) Sharon MA / Rivers School ESPN 3 Star 90 Score: Mobile wing player with good strength on the perimeter. She gets great lift on her jumper and can heat up from behind the arc. Could be a face-up 4 player but plays mostly on the wing for the Bay State Jaguars. The challenge for her on the wing comes on the defensive end where she uses her length and size to negate the difference in quickness against some prospects. Committed to Boston College.
Megan McGurk (5-8 PG) West Chester PA / Academy of Notre Dame ESPN 40 Score: a first team All-Inter-Ac and All-Delco pick, as well as a second team all-state selection (Class AA), averaged 14.8 points, 4.6 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game.
Brittni Lai (5-6 PG) Irvington NY / Hudson Valley Elite: Everyone knew it was coming. Irvington had been set on this predestined path for a three-peat since the offseason. Behind the play of junior Brittni Lai, the Bulldogs on Saturday won their third straight Class B state championship.
Lai led the way in the title game with 25 points, seven rebounds, and four steals and was named tournament MVP as the Bulldogs handed Section 3’s South Jefferson its first loss of the season, 69-42, at Hudson Valley Community College .
“We watched them (Friday) and we knew they were a tough team that worked hard,” Lai said. “They never had been here before so they were going to come out and try to win. We wanted to take it home and just play our hearts out. At halftime we had a 10-point lead and we just said to keep running the ball and let it happen.” VERBAL to Marist
The Coup d’etat would be:
Saniya Chong (5-9 PG) Westchester NY / Ossining: a 5'9" junior point guard at Ossining High, scored 31 points -- including her 2,000th career point with a free throw that completed a four-point play -- to lead the Pride to a 79-48 win over Our Lady of Lourdes High for its second straight Section 1 Class AA championship. She also had eight assists and five boards tin the win, continuing the team's undefeated season, 22-0. Saniya, who averaged 33.6 points, 9.9 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 5 steals through Sunday, was named Tournament MVP. Has offers from Louisville, Ohio State, Virginia Tech and interest from UConn, BC, Hofstra, Marist, North Carolina, Rutgers, St. Johns, Seton Hall, others
